In 1864 after 24 years living at Yellowin NSW, and 17 years as a married man John sold his share of "Yellowin" moved onto "Springfield Station" Blowering Road, Tumut.
His half brother Henry Wilkinson joined him at "Springfield" and a fine property was established. Rich river flats were well used for dairying and the growing of crops.
A Hereford Stud was established with great results in the shows and sale yards.
In 1857 Henry Wilkinson married half brother
John's
wife Elizabeth's younger sister
Charlotte McAlister
daughter of neighbour the McAlister's from
"Wereboldera"
(Ref:- NSW BDM No. 2684). Both girls mother was the first white women to live in the area. Having relocated to the William Warby property "Darbarlara Run" in about 1828. Elizabeth was the first white person to be born in the area in 10th May, 1830.
So two of the very early pioneering families into the general area married and between them all many thousands of acreas were claimed and worked very successfully over the later years.
They all would have experienced extreme hardships in establishing their lifestyles, but, no doubt had a great satisfaction to see the results of their efforts in their later lives. To enjoy the comfort of modern housing alone would have been worth while.
